Societies are complex networks. They must be approached conscientiously, respectfully and treated with deference at all times. Needless to say, societies always benefit from the constant nourishment, cross-pollination of ideas, protection, infusions of investments and the constant deconfliction of interests.
Societies are composed of numerous communities which are largely self-organizing. They generally cohere around certain social constructs, cultures, may depend on certain shared, localized commons and usually regiment around particular historical interests amidst much more.
Societies need to be preserved and their commonalities conserved. It only follows that certain customs, interests, resources also require protection by the structured maintenance of their political, social and economic contiguities.
Any intervention planning aimed towards a particular society has to be thoroughly informed by numerous relevant cross-cutting issues of interest within and across that community.
